Similar and curated competitors
Finding a company is only the start - the next step is being able to understand the market context. It might be to identify market position, who key competitors are or who potential acquisition targets could be, but in any case, Gain.pro helps you get up to speed in seconds.
Our market tab gives you access to hundreds of similar companies to get your research started quickly. On curated competitor profiles, our PEI analysts will include their own suggestions based on the 8-10 hours of research they have done on the business and market.
We also leverage our leading GenAI similar company analysis (that we are continually refining) to suggest up to 500 other similar companies, which can help you get a more complete view on the long-tail of similar businesses. These curated and suggested competitors also form the core company set for our Benchmarking analysis, which visualises financial and performance metrics across these competitors and the company you’re interested in.
Valuations in Gain.pro
The primary goal of our valuations is to provide a ballpark estimate of deal size. Like this, it is a helpful input to judge whether a company is within the sweet spot of an investor or advisor. Of course, it only provides a directional indication of the true company value.
We include rich public and private company valuation data for companies in Gain.pro, meaning you can get started on your own valuation analysis quicker.
We track detailed public company valuation data as well as offering smart insights into the private valuation market. This includes
- Share price and valuation data for public companies in Gain.pro
- Similar public company valuations for private companies
- Our own proprietary valuation estimate, based on company sector and company-specific adjustments
- Precedent transaction data for known metrics from reported transaction
Valuation FAQS:
What does your public company valuation data include?
We track share price on a daily basis, alongside total market cap, EV and EV / EBITDA. We also track monthly analyst recommendations (Buy v Sell v Hold) and key valuation ratios (e.g. EV / EBITDA, EV / EBIT, EV / Sales and others).
What are your similar public company valuation suggestions based on?
For a private company, heading over to the valuation tab will suggest the valuation ratios of similar public companies. These ratios include EV, EV / EBITDA, EV / EBIT and EV / Sales for key periods (including LTM and NTM). The similar company suggestions are based on the same logic and tagging as the competitors suggested in the market analysis.
What does our private company valuation estimate include?
The EV/EBITDA multiple is determined by our platform, which uses a continuously back-tested algorithm (e.g. compares results with prior deals data). This is not done by our analysts.
The platform starts with a multiple of 10x, the historical median multiple for medium-sized private businesses (>€10m EBITDA). The multiple is then adjusted for:
- Sector (e.g. Software companies tend to have a higher multiple than Industrial companies)
- Size (large companies tend to have a higher multiple than smaller ones)
- Historical performance and business profile (derived from investment criteria on our platform)
How does our platform forecast private company EBITDA in the valuation table?
The EBITDA forecast in the valuation table uses base year EBITDA (year indicated in the table), which is then extrapolated based on historical organic revenue growth and M&A activity. This is an algorithm-based process, which is not directly influenced by our analysts.
