What to know
Search to quickly find the exact Companies that interest you, turning a broad market into an actionable list.
Your first search is about translating an idea into a concrete list of opportunities.
A step-by-step guide
Let's start with a typical Company Search workflow (the principles apply across profile types). To explore a market and build a list of Companies from scratch, navigate to the Companies tab and use our filters.
First, define the sector or niche you're interested in. This is a qualitative step to define your target sector or business model.
We offer lots of powerful filters to achieve this, covered from most broad to most specific below.
Sector
Every Company on Gain.pro is tagged to a Sector and Sub-sector so you can quickly start exploring a broad landscape.
Expect 10k-100k+ results
Tags
Tags are more narrow niches. Describe a description or activity in natural language and we'll suggest results that you can combine with AND, OR or NOT filters.
Expect 100-100k results
Text Contains
Use this powerful filter to find specific words or phrases within a company's business description, name or other profile text
Expect 1-10k results, based on specificity
Similar To
If you already know the type of company (or companies) you're interested in, specify key player names in this filter to get a list of comparable peers based on our similarity algorithm.

AI Search
Describe any idea as you would to a colleague and let us find the most relevant results in our database.
Search for add-ons, strategic buyers, competitors or more in any niche.
- We recommend only including qualitative context in the search box here
- You can then add size, financial or numerical filters with other Gain.pro filters
Examples include
"Dental Chains with a proven track record of M&A"
"Add-on targets for a large HVAC supplier"
"Potential strategic buyers for Rentman"
"Restaurant Chains in the US with dense regional clusters"
Expect 1-500 results, based on specificity
Once you've defined your segment, refine location, size and ownership type to narrow your list.
Company HQ
Filter by country, region or even a radius around an area to make sure you pick up on the right HQ location
Size (Financial or FTE)
You can use our Revenue, EBITDA or FTE filters to specify exact ranges. Use the OR selector at the bottom of a filter to combine two of them (such as Revenue OR FTEs) and expand your results.
Ownership
Isolate and focus on companies that are specifically public, investor-backed or privately-held
You show now have a targeted list of companies. Click into a profile to begin your deep-dive analysis.
You can also save your search to a Watchlist, but we'll cover that in more detail later on.
